When entrepreneur Karen Mitchell saw an opportunity to create and offer high-quality hair extensions, she took the idea and ran with it, transforming her “side hustle” into one of today’s most sought-after hair-extension brands. If you’re a fan of Bravo’s Real Housewives of Atlanta, chances are you know each of the cast members and their friends on the show. One of the most notable acquaintances is Atlanta tastemaker and entrepreneur Marlo Hampton, who is known for her designer-studded ensembles and flawlessly-styled tresses. In fact, her perfectly-styled coif had become her calling card on the show.
Why we love it: A celebrity favorite brand, you’ve seen this hair on Serena Williams, Solange Knowles, Padma Lakshmi, and Lizzo to name a few. The hair is 100 percent virgin cuticle hair, culled directly from the root. True Indian Hair is also super reusable and can last six months to a year or longer with proper care and storage. True Indian Care is also a black-owned business started by Karen Mitchell, a hairstylist who has been in the game for over 14 years.
The details: The hair comes in textures of straight, wavy and curly and in natural tones of black and browns.
If you buy one piece… The True Signature collection hair. This hair was featured on the cover—yes cover—of Lizzo’s album.

Going natural has been an incredible hair journey for me, though I’ll have to be honest, more often than not, fraught with frustrations. After relaxing my hair for most of my life, I’ve gone creamy crack free for a little under 4 years now. One of my favorite things about my natural hair journey is the discovery of black women taking their share of the black haircare industry, something that was considered unthinkable before. One of these boss women is True Indian Hair founder, Karen Mitchell.
We are over the moon with excitement at Lizzo’s V Magazine cover and spread rocking Trueindianhair styled by celebrity stylist Yusef Hawkins. We are just as excited as we were for her album cover looks also with True Indian hair of course.
